Ofsted Inspection confirms, Canon Lee is a ‘Good School’

I am delighted that the recent Ofsted inspection of our school has confirmed that Canon Lee is a ‘good' school'. A ‘Good' school is the second highest category which inspectors can award and reflects the high quality educational experience which our students have. As well as the overall grade inspectors rated each main area as ‘good' which agreed with our own assessment.

Over the last few years we have seen some outstanding achievements including being ranked in the top 40 most improved specialist schools in the country for five or more GCSEs, including English and Maths, as well as seeing six of our students in the top ten nationally for their GCSE results in a range of subjects. I am sure you will share my enormous pride in our students, our school and our staff. I look forward to leading our school as we continue to move forwards towards being an ‘Outstanding' school.

Kevin Deadman; Head Teacher
Canon Lee Specialist Arts College

"This Ofsted inspection, and the subsequent report is a vindication of the immense work and commitment that the school has carried out over several years, as it strives to continually raise the quality of education it is able to provide. However, this report is still only a stepping stone to where the school aspires to be, and the governors of Canon Lee school strongly support the statement by the Inspector in his letter to students,

"We believe, with your headteacher, that even the good can be better".

Any future improvement can only be achieved if there is collaboration between the school, parents and students. We will continue to strive, to move the school towards attaining even higher standards, and with your help, we will attain them."

John Fowler - Chair of Governors

"The LEA is delighted that Canon Lee is described by the Ofsted inspection in February 2009 as a ‘Good' school. The quality of the learning, the teaching and the curriculum that the school offers have all been judged as good - these are absolutely crucial in ensuring that the achievement of students is also judged as good".

"However, the key factor in raising standards and providing a high quality education for all students is the quality of leadership. This is also felt to be ‘good' by Ofsted. Canon Lee has made real progress since its last inspection in 2005".

"Students, staff, parents and governors can be very proud of the school's achievements, and what it offers its students - we would like to congratulate everyone on a very positive Ofsted Report".
