Important Information

Punctuality

Punctuality is an important part of self discipline. It is essential that all students arrive at school at the times shown for the start of school.

Always make sure that you are in the proper classroom at the times shown on your timetable.

If you arrive during registration times you should report to your form tutor. You will be marked late on the electronic register (BROMCOM).

If you arrive at school after the end of registration you should sign in at the main office. You will need to explain your late arrival.

Please note - you will be dealt with if you arrive at registration or lessons late without good reason. You can expect that any one of a range of sanctions will be imposed.

Attendance

You should be in school on every school day. There must be a good reason for absence if you are not in school. Your parents should telephone the school before the start of the day on the first day of absence. This will save the school contacting your parents to check on the reason for absence. Your parents need to send in a letter covering any absence from school.

Family holidays should not be arranged during term time unless this is unavoidable. If that is the case, then a written request for leave of absence should be made to the Headteacher, enclosing a copy of the appropriate booking form. Requests for holiday leave of more than two school weeks during term time are not legal and cannot be granted.

Valuables

Expensive items or large sums of money should not be brought to school. Radios or personal entertainment equipment should never be brought to school. The school will not accept responsibility for the security of such items and will not take action should an item be lost or stolen.

Mobile telephones are not permitted in school at any time. They will be confiscated.

MP3 players or ipods will not be tolerated.

Illness and Accidents

If you feel unwell or have an accident, you must tell a teacher straight away. Normally, you will be sent to see Mrs Gibbon G102 who will take care of you. She is a trained First Aider. If you are too ill to stay in school, or if hospital treatment is needed, your parents will be contacted.

You must never leave school or go home without permission.

Medicines

If you need to take medicine at school you should bring a letter from your parents which states when you should take it. The medicine must be left with Mrs Trow and you must go to her to take it at the appropriate time. Only inhalers for asthma should be carried round school.

Signing Out

Medical and dental appointments should normally be made outside school hours. Only unavoidable appointments should be made during school hours.

If you must leave school for any reason, you must bring a note from your parents which explains why you need to leave and obtain an official City of York pass for truancy watch. Before leaving school you must sign out at the school office. If you return to school the same day, you must go to the office to sign in again.

Lost Property

Students finding items of lost property should hand them in at the office without delay. If you lose something please enquire at the school office. If the item has not already been handed in, you should tell your form tutor.

Breaks

All students must remain on the premises during morning break. You must bring a note from your parents to indicate whether you will remain in school or go home during the lunch break. Students who leave the school at lunchtime become their parents' responsibility until afternoon school starts. A letter must be brought in at the start of each school year to give permission for students to leave site.

Food

Food or drink may only be consumed in the designated areas. You must not eat or drink in classrooms or corridors at any time. Soft drinks, biscuits and other snacks are on sale during break at prices below normal shop prices.

Chewing gum, bubble gum and alcohol are strictly forbidden.

All litter should be placed in the bins round the school.
