Health & Social Care

At Canon Lee students are given the opportunity to study some vocational GCSE's, one of which is Health & Social Care. This course is designed to give students an insight into the wide ranging careers in the Care industry. Students study 3 units over 2 years, and are timetabled for 4 lessons a week, 2 of the units are written course work reports and one unit is externally examined and as a result students are awarded 2 GCSE grades.

Unit 1 is a report on 2 Care Placements, and students are given work experience in at least on of the placements. In this unit they are expected to investigate how the Care provider fits into a wider Health & Social Care picture both nationally and locally, how it is financed, one persons job role and qualifications, how the provider meet the needs of it's clients and provides the best possible care, and also what might stop clients accessing the care they offer.

Unit 2 is about promoting good heath and well-being by writing a report on a chosen person assessing their health and writing a health improvement plan for that person.

Unit 3 is about the understanding of personal development and relationships throughout a person's lifespan, looking at all the factors that develop people physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially. This knowledge is then examined.

Students at Canon Lee really enjoy this vocational course, it is a very successful and popular option choice, and many of our students have gone on to studies and careers in the Care industry.
