ICT ![]() The ICT department is a modern, popular, successful department, with some state of the art facilities. The three dedicated ICT suites are kitted out with networks of brand new MS Windows desktops running the latest MS office, Adobe and Serif suites of applications, along with a wide range of specialist software packages. The department has an ethos which aims to make learning enjoyable, challenging and engaging with an approach and resources that aim to develop enthusiasm and independence in our students. Learning and teaching is at the heart of our lessons and we are in the process of re-developing our lessons to put an even greater emphasis on HOW the learning takes place. Courses run throughout both key stage 3 and key stage 4, and all lessons are delivered by specialist ICT teachers. All lessons are delivered via the school’s well developed VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) which provides all the instructions, resources and links required to deliver lessons and allow the students to study independently from school, home or anywhere with an internet connection. Key Stage 3 All students under a weekly lesson in the dedicated ICT suites, with a specialist ICT teacher. The curriculum is new for 2011-2012 and covers a range of topics, including e-safety, Modelling using Spread sheets, Databases, Presentation techniques, Control and sequencing, Searching on the internet, data logging, Web Publishing, Movie Making, Desktop publishing, Word Processing, Corporate Style & branding, Animation for the web, Pod Casting and Game making. As the curriculum is developed, it is incorporating new approaches to encourage and promote learning and focus on student progress. Key Stage 4 We currently offer the OCR Nationals at level 2 for our KS4 study. This has proved to be popular with the students and also successful. All our cohorts have been achieving near enough 100% pass rates, with all students achieving 2 or more GCSEs. The OCR course is flexible, as it allows students to choose units of study from a range of options. They can then study at their own pace, to a grade that suits them, and so our teaching methods and our learning environment have been structured to facilitate this. Students receive 4 hours per week with a specialist ICT teacher in one of the dedicated ICT suites.
