The Physical Education department at Canon Lee consists of 6 staff, 4 full time and 2 part time. The department has excellent facilities with a sprung floor sports hall, a fully equipped fitness suite, gymnasium, four tennis courts and 2 games fields.
In Key Stage 3 all student are allocated 2 hours a week. In that time they will cover most of the following topics; athletics, basketball, badminton, cricket, dance, fitness, football gymnastics, hockey, netball, orienteering, rounders, rugby, softball, tennis, trampolining and volleyball.
The curriculum is designed to be accessible to all, so that all students can achieve, but flexible enough to extend even the most talented athlete.
In Key Stage 4 most students have either 1 or 2 hours of core Physical Education per week. Within that time they will opt for one of the activities listed in Key Stage 3.
GCSE Physical Education is open to all students. The exam has 3 parts; practical, analytical investigation and a written exam.
Teams are run in football, rugby, netball, basketball, cricket, athletics and rounders in all years where there is a demand.
The school has won football leagues and cups, been involved in county cup finals and won rugby area competitions in 2 age groups, all in the last two years.
The department has been running ski trips to the Aosta Valley (Italy) for 6 years. The trips provide students with the opportunity to learn a completely new skill and to sample other cultures. Last year a football skills trip was run to Valencia and another is planned for the forthcoming year.
